Studio MayDay Rebrands as Riffraff Games Following Tencent Investment

New Zealand-based studio joins publisher’s growing ecosystem of developers

Following a significant investment by Tencent, award-winning game developer Joshua Boggs has relaunched Studio MayDay as RiffRaff Games.

Known as the creator of the Framed series, which sold over four million copies, RiffRaff Games has two titles in development including a new third-person, stealth-action game.

“We’re on a mission to craft clever, high-concept titles with inventive mechanics. We’ve got a kick-ass team of incredible talent, and we’re now on the lookout for experienced game developers to be a part of our ‘spiritually-inspired’ third-person stealth-action project.” said Boggs.

The New Zealand-based studio is rapidly expanding and hiring remote global talent. Riffraff Games’ team includes developers and other with prior experience at Electronic Arts, Creative Assembly, WETA, A44 and other well-regarded studios.

“Tencent has been very supportive of our innovative roots and our desire to take creative risks. The resources, the experience, and the mentorship it has provided are allowing Riffraff Games to pursue things that we didn’t know could be within our grasp. It’s a really exciting time for the studio,” said Boggs.

This investment follows other recent ones made by Tencent in Tequila Works and Offworld Industries.
