Digital Extremes reveals new Warframe story mission and Soulframe monster collecting at PAX East 2025

Digital Extremes showcased new content for their online action games Warframe and Soulframe during their annual PAX East presentation. The studio revealed upcoming story missions, quality-of-life improvements, and new features for both titles.

New story content and features coming to Warframe

Warframe’s next major update, Isleweaver, launches in June 2025. This free update returns players to the Kingdom of Duviri to confront Major Rusalka in a new storyline that connects to recent events in Warframe: 1999. The update also introduces traditional Warframe gameplay to The Duviri Paradox, now allowing players to use their preferred Warframes in combat.

Players can look forward to unlocking Oraxia, the game’s 61st Warframe, which features spider-themed aesthetics and abilities. “Players have been shouting from the mountaintops for us to create a ‘Spiderframe’ for years, and Oraxia’s officially here!” said Warframe creative director Rebecca Ford during the stream.

The premium Yareli Prime frame will also join the roster on May 21, offering an elevated edition of the water-based Warframe. The presentation also revealed new Heirloom cosmetic skins for Valkyr and Vauban frames.

Several quality-of-life improvements are in development, including a rebalancing of crafting costs for the Rhino Warframe, adjusted Railjack difficulty for The New War, and a streamlined “golden path” progression system aimed at new players. These changes improve the game’s accessibility for new players while simplifying access to recent content like Warframe:1999.

Soulframe development progress

Digital Extremes’ upcoming fantasy action-RPG Soulframe continues closed pre-alpha testing with select players via Soulframe Preludes. The studio demonstrated new open-world gameplay and unveiled how players will interact with the game’s rival factions.

“The reception to our Soulframe announcements at PAX East last year was so positive, we wanted to make sure we came back for fans eager for more,” said Soulframe creative director Geoff Crookes.

“Since we were on this very stage over a year ago, we’ve made so much progress alongside our Preludes players thanks to their feedback, like more rewarding combat, new social features, as well as additional Ancestors and enemies to flesh out the world. We’re looking forward to seeing reactions when we show more of Bromius at TennoCon in July.”

In addition to refined combat and exploration gameplay, Soulframe will also be adding in a new creature-capture feature called Motes. Players will be able to find and capture Motes to either improve their arsenal or other motes, or release them back into the wild to yield rewards.

Soulframe‘s focus on building a lush, vast open-world online RPG has given it a different tone compared to Warframe’s high-speed power fantasy gameplay, and the community of players exploring its world continues to grow.
